This is really disappointing news that this collection is no longer for sale. And I can't believe that the people of Montana have no interest in saving it. They simply don't understand the value historically and otherwise that this collection means for our state.
I havn't lived in Montana for many years, but my heart is still there! I presently reside in North Carolina, it seems a million miles away......
I wonder if a publication like Wild West were notified about the collection and what is happening , if it would perk some interest. It definately has historical value, especially to the western U.S. Such a shame for us all.
You are to be commended for your efforts.
Regards, Bab

Brentnvicki,
This is a wonderful and informative article, and one that I enjoyed. Sorry I failed to get back to you in the Dewey Beard thread last year, was set aside for awhile with my husband's cancer treatments and illness.
I did not, in any way, mean to infer that David Miller was not the most honest of artists, nor did I mean to infer that he used anything but live models for his art work. I must tell you that I have been trying to collect photos of all the Native Americans who participated in the Battle of the LBH, so I have found Miller's work a wonderful gift! His technique of painting on colored paper using different mediums happens to be one of my favorite art techniques also.
His life work was certainly one of the most important works left in my home state, and I thank you for your efforts to save them for all Montanans. Not to mention the historical value of the same! Thank you for sharing.
Sincerely, Montana Bab

When I look at the last photograph I believe Miller painted his portrait from it. He changed some details, but generally Dewey Beard looks very similar. Deitmar, I tend to agree with you about the photo and the painting. The similarities are striking! Only difference I can see is the medallion above the ermine drops on the headband of his war bonnet. Diane and Dietmar,
I couldn't be happier and appreciate so much your far-sightedness in building this website! This information is crucial in so many ways. Thanks so much for all the work. I'll be a 'regular' here just browsing around! I love everything NA!
