Maybe of interest, there was an auction held a few day's ago about weapons used by indians during the battle of the Little Big Horn. Lots of info to whom the weapons belonged. gunsofhistoryauction.com/artifacts/catalogEnjoy

I wasn't sure where to post this question, but here seems like a good place. There are only a handful of known images of the Cheyenne chief Little Wolf. Two were taken by Gardner at Ft. Laramie in 1868. This is the one you see most often. The only place I've seen it credited to "Signal Corps Photo, Nat. Archives." But a search of the National Archives and Records Services yields nothing. View AttachmentI am hoping to publish a detail of this image and don't have time to get permissions. Hence I would prefer to cite NARA and not deal with the Newberry (even if they have it). Thanks! Em

I have recently learned some new information on Sitting Bull the Oglala, or Packs the Drum, from friends at Pine Ridge. His ceremonial adoptive or hunka father was Old Man Afraid of His Horse. He and Sword Owner, elder brother of George Sword, were head akicita in Man Afraid of His Horse's Oglala village in late summer-fall 1867. Their warrior society the Wiciska was in charge of akicita or police functions. I am getting the feeling - could be wrong - that Sitting Bull/Packs the Drum was a son of Brown Bull, Tatanka Gi, a brother of Little Wound's. I hope to clarify that. According my information is, that Sitting Bull was the son of Slow Bull & Wears the Leaf….

Hi Henri, is there any indication at all that he could be the same as Chief Joseph Goose (Maga)? I cannot find Giles anywhere else. Mike Hi Mike...in the book there isno mention on this. So I think you have to dig further ;-) Henri

I'm very curious about a Giles Goose and if he is related to Chief Goose. According to the Sioux County, ND newspaper, the Chief died in July of 1915 and would be buried in Sioux County in a "Catholic Cemetery." FindAGrave has a memorial for Giles. Born in 1838 died in 1915. Indian Scout, Rogers Company. The memorial includes a picture of the headstone. All I could find on the Chief's birth is your 1834 and 'about 1836.' I could find no memorial/burial for Joseph. Although Joseph had other names, Giles is not one of them that I could find. Do you know which "Catholic Cemetery" the Chief is buried in? Do you have any knowledge that Joseph/Giles are one and the same, or something that clearly makes them different? Read more: amertribes.proboards.com/thread/1254/chief-goose#ixzz5IypQCs00I have a book, My Search for the Burial Sites of Sioux Nation Chiefs, on page 59, Giles Goose is buried in St.Peter's Catholic Cementery at Fort Yates, North Dakota. According the book he was a Chief and scout. He has a Iron Cross Monument which reads, Giles Goose, died July 1916, age 90 years, Chief and Scout. Near Goose grave are the following, Rain in the Face, John Grass, Bears Coat.

There is some little confusion at my side...according the "Families of Pine Ridge" list, which LaDeane Miller made, there is only 1 Slow Bull listed. Slow Bull...son of ?, married Wears the Leaf, daughter of Bull Bear 2. Slow Bull married also Comes Out, a Cheyenne. With Comes Out he had several children, Yellow Hair Woman ( married to Smoke ),Afraid of Hawk, Poor Thunder and Chief? With Wears the Leaf he had Sitting Bull the younger. My question...where came Slow Bull the second comes from? Did one of the 3 boys took his name?

If you read the second line, Buechels Autographed Object Tag, it says Ghostshirt, and that it is.
