i started this to pretty much discuss the origin of the name. From many different posts the name and its origin are posted but, i did post the following else where but I think it deserves its own discussion Hello...I was researching the Band history of the Ihanktowanna. I found mention of the Pabaksa-Cut Head being translated into french as Tete Coups or Tete Coupees or varations of this spelling. I see that the name Cut Head is always associated with the death of The Chargers father in about 1823 or so. However, I found the following reference by Jean Truteau [Trudeau] noted on July 20, 1795, “A Sioux Village which they call “Ta Coropa” numbering eighty huts, came to join the Sioux village, which has settled here...”
So, i was wondering if, the association of the name and the death of Red Thunder could have been mentioned once and taken its own life from there? This early reference could be researched by any historian but the band names is something that needs like a list that can be published as like, one everyone can agree on. I only searched for the times when the explorers actually met the Ihanktowanna and not utilized second hand information. So, let me know what you all think.
