Here's a composite of three photographs, with "Wolf" photographed by Curtis in the center. On the left a man looking like Wolf, but wearing the same shirt. On the right a man not looking like Wolf but wearing the same shirt. Any idea? Attachments:

Hi Tipifan, I agree that man in the first photograph from left looks like Wolf - same mouth and nose (maybe Wolf is not so large, but there's very little difference) - the eyes detail would be decisive to say if they are indeed the same person, but unfortunately, it's hard to see them in the first picture. About the man in the third picture, it' definitely not Wolf - if I had to say a name off of the top of my head, I'd go for Shows-a-Fish. Will do a panorama image tonight for a better comparison. Here's another photo of Wolf, taken by Richard Throssel: and the one by Curtis

To stay on topic, here's what E.S. Curtis wrote about Wolf in his The North American Indian:
"Born in 1857. Mountain Crow, Not Mixed Clan, Fox organization. His medicine of wolf was obtained by purchase. He has to his credit a dakshe (i.e. a coup) and a captured gun, both honors having been won at the same time, when he rushed into a protected hollow where were concealed two Yanktonai who had already killed three and wounded two of the attacking Apsaroke. Again, when six of a party of seven turned back without finding the enemy, Wolf alone went forward and captured a tethered horse from the camp. In pursuing some Yanktonai who had taken Apsaroke horses, he and his companion charged; his horse went down and, as he arose, he himself was shot"

Although identified as Blackfoot, I am convinced this is actually another photograph of Wolf:

Here's another photo of the man who definitely is NOT Wolf but wears his shirt. Though I'm not sure yet, he could be Shows-The Fish. Attachments:

You're right, it must be Shows-A-Fish. P.S.: I think the portrait is mirrored -- many of the old photographs in the BBHC photo collection are reversed! Attachments:
