For the Picture gurus:
I have a picture captioned: 'Spotted Elk, Sioux, F.A. Rinehart, Omaha, 1900.'
I can't seem to find any information yet on him. Several sites state another of Big Foot's names is Spotted Elk but the 1900 date rules that out. I found a picture of a Spotted Elk in a book on L.A. Huffman- The Frontier Years by Mark Brown and W.R. Felton(p. 125). This picture is captioned: 'Spotted Elk, Head Warrior, Minneconjoux Sioux, 1878.'
Might this be the same Spotted Elk?

Karl,
This will be absolutely no help, but there was a Northern Cheyenne at LBH named Spotted Elk (at least that's what my listing on the main website says). Dietmar will be back from vacation next week and can probably help you.

Or the Oglala or the Brule. Can you post the Rinehart photo?

My first time posting pictures--hope this turns out. This is the Huffman Spotted Elk This is the Rinehart Spotted Elk. I photographed the picture I have on the wall, so the quality isn't the greatest. It also has 'N22' on it which may be a catalog reference number.

Hi karlkoz,
the Rinehart photo shows the Oglala Spotted Elk. If I recall correctly he was somehow associated with the He Dog tiyospaye. He was also photographed as part of the Sioux delegation of 1888 in Washington.
The Huffman photo is of a Mniconjou Spotted Elk, but most probably not the one who is also known as Big Foot.
