If I recall correctly, Sword was not officially with the group, so he may not be in the photo at all. Was LBM really that short?

Yes, I´ve read that, too. But he is obviously in the first delegation photo in this thread. Black Crow is said to have been part of the 1877 delegation, but I can´t discern him in any of the photos.

Good morning. Comparing the whole set of pictures taken by Mathew Brady during the 1877 delegation trip to Washington with the Corcoran Gallery of Art group photo I think there are some adjustments to be made. Certainly a correct identification of all the chiefs portraied is not easy for at least a couple of reasons. First of all the poor quality of the photo makes it difficult to recognize chiefs with a dark or blurred image. Secondly, quite everybody changed dress from Brady's shots, making our work harder, if possible. In M. Brady's pictures some of delegates wore a scalp shirt while in Corcoran Gallery photo everybody wear a white sleeved shirt with a waistcoat. What helped me most to correcly identify each delegate was the hair style, especially the braid fashion. Looking carefully we can see that somebody has fur braided hairs while some others have flannel braided hairs. That's the sole constant factor for all the set of pictures taken during the 1877 delegation trip. So here's the result of my research: Standing, left to right: Big Road (Oglala), Iron Crow (Oglala), Gen. George Crook, Little Big Man (Oglala), Yellow Bear (Oglala), Lt. Philo Clark, Young Man Afraid of His Horses (Oglala), Red Cloud (Oglala), Antoine Janis (interpreter), Spotted Tail (Brulé), Spotted Tail jr. (Brulé), Swift Bear (Brulé), White Tail (Brulé), Ring Thunder (Brulé), HOLLOW HORN BEAR (Brulé)(the sole identity I'm not certain of due to the head position and the fact that hairs look less wavy than in Brady's shots), THREE BEARS (Oglala)(mislabelled with Little Hawk, he wears the same shirt as in Brady's Oglala delegation pic where he also has on a horned headdress; he has tissue wrapped braids too and not fur wrapped like Little Hawk's shots), Good Voice (Brulé), RED BEAR (Sans Arc)(mislabelled as Hollow Horn Bear, he wears earrings the latter one doesn't seem to have in other pictures; he also has the hair parting on the right side as in Brady's Brulé delegation pic where he also appears sitting first from left), Joseph Merivalle (interpreter), Touch the Clouds (Minneconjou). Sitting, left to right: W.W. Corcoran, He Dog (Oglala), Billy Garnett (interpreter), American Horse (Oglala), Little Wound (Oglala), Black Coal (Arapaho), Friday (Arapaho), Sharp Nose (Arapaho), LITTLE HAWK (Brulé)(confused with Three Bears, he wears the same fur braided hairs and earrings portrayed also by Brady), GEORGE SWORD (Oglala)(confused with Red Bear, he wears the same big fur braids and waistcoat as in Brady's pics). Hope this helps. Greeting from Italy!

Clarence,
I´m in haste a bit, but after reading your suggestions I would agree to everything you said. Great! I guess we need a better scan to be sure in some cases.
However, thank you! I´ll correct the names on the photos later.
