After the battle of The Little Bighorn, Sitting Bull was walking around viewing the dead when he came upon a group of women who were standing over a man who was gravely wounded but still alive and they were getting ready to kill him. Sitting Bull told them not to harm him because he was once a friend who helped the Lakota in the past. He basically told them to let him die in peace and even gave him water to drink. After Sitting Bull continued walking, the women came back and killed/multilated the man anyway.
Ive heard he was an African American cook or cattle worker. Not really an enemy combatant but he was part of the Custer expedition. I'm guessing he was part of Reno's battalion? He was found deep into the village. Maybe he was dragged there? Anyway. Thank you in advance. I find it interesting that a man like Sitting Bull would recognize an old friend during the chaos. Maybe this is just a feel good story?
