Would like to identify the people with my great uncle Dr. E. Rondot, (man with hat). Wondering what he is doing in Nebraska.

Welcome paulinel,
that is an intriguing picture. Do you have any more information about Dr. Rondot? When did he live etc.?
I wonder if it is Swift Bear in the center... and the other faces look familiar, too.

Is this Dr Rondot too? Beard's a little different, I know, but... Is the older man not the same older man in the middle of your photo?

Hmmm. I'm inclined to agree with Dietmar now. This is Swift Bear in 1907 in Cincinnati, so I guess your photo is from round about the same time: A long shot, I know, but could this be your doctor without the beard? Swift Bear (1907 again, I think)

Like Grahame I would guess the photo was taken around 1900. I don´t know anything about the photographer. The photo imprint says Johnson´s studio was in Naper, Nebraska.
If it is Swift Bear, the other men are probably from Rosebud either. The man in the fur coat is a younger version of the man on left holding an American flag, so he´s likely his son.

My great uncle Dr. Ernest Rondot was born in 1870 in a small French town near Windsor, Ontario. He also died in that same town 103 years later. I was born in 1961 in the same town therefore had the chance to see him. Dr. RONDOT became the Dr. of Beal city near Sherman city Michigan on January 18, 1907. He studied in Detroit and also in Paris. He also practiced medicine in the Dakotas and Colorado. His father Charles Emile was born in France but died in the small town near Windsor. Charles Émile father Claude was born in France and died in Indiana in 1855. We think he was in Beal city as a doctor from 1907 to the late 1940’s. In the post by Grahamew the man in the hat could be Dr. RONDOT because he was in South Dakota but I don’t think he had such a large build. As for Swift Bear, I leave that to you but I wonder if it could be Red Cloud?

I'm afraid Internet searches for Dr. Rondot yield no results. Also in the newspaper archive of the Library of Congress there is nothing about him or his stay in Nebraska.
There is no absolute certainty if you identify people by photos, but based on what I see I would exclude Red Cloud.
Swift Bear also makes sense because Naper is not far from the area where he had his camp at the time, not far from the town of Herrick.

It is Dr. RONDOT in the book about Isabella County. What he was doing in Nebraska with the group will remain a mystery for now I guess. I will read up on Swift Bear. Thanks.

Can anyone make out the flag Swift Bear is holding?
