This early 1873 rifle, Springfield 1873 45-70, was issued to Co F 10th Cav. It may have been given to a Indian scout, or was just captured by the Indians.
Anyway the two symbols look to me like coup symbols, one looks to me like a war club or knife or sword handle with no blade? The other symbol look like the top of the coup staff or could it be a snake?
So just wanted to get your all opinion on what you think they are or might mean.
