Greetings from a new member! I am finishing a thesis on the Comanches and am also researching ledger art. My question is, why does there not appear to be any Comanche ledger art from the 1860s and 1870s? Their friends, the Kiowas and Southern Cheyennes created quite a bit, however, I cannot seem to locate more than a couple of pictures for which the provenance is less than ideal. The handful of Comanches sent to Fort Marion apparently created none at all, meanwhile, the Kiowas and Cheyennes were at it constantly. I am hoping someone here, Dr. Kavanagh perhaps, might have a theory.

There is one (the Lent Ledger, dated 1880-89) attributed to Comanches in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. Maybe you've seen it already. I know nothing about it!

I have seen a couple of images from it. The provenance isn't clear to me. if I were to hazard a guess, I would say it's Kiowa. I think the artist identified a Comanche as a member of this raiding party.
