**Royer was relieved as of January 8, 1891, in the wake of the Wounded Knee incident of December 29, 1890. During the succeeding months temporary responsibility for the agency devolved upon F. E. Pierce (Jan. 12), Capt. Charles G. Penney (Feb. 5), and Capt. George LeRoy Brown (Oct. 27). Finally, on December 1, Capt. Brown was named Acting Agent. HE was succeeded by Capt. Charles G. Penney (acting) July 24, 1893; Capt. W. H. Clapp (acting), January 1, 1896; James E. Jenkins (special Agent), August 1, 1900; and John R. Brennan, November 1, 1900.
