Hello prettyrose, there is some publication about a supposed photo of Tasunke Witko, to find here in the forum : amertribes.proboards.com/thread/2713/face-crazy-horseThere is some discussion wether or not this is a true image of the famous chief and warrior, but in this book you can find a number of descriptions of how he looked at least. The authors of this book did a great job in my eyes. chicheman

Crazy Horse in 1877: "I saw before me a man who looked quite young, not over thirty years old, five feet eight inches high, lithe and sinewy and with a scar in the face. The expression of his countenance was one of quiet dignity, but morose, dogged, tenacious and melancholy."
John G. Bourke, On the Border with Crook - and remember, Bourke was an amateur anthropologist, so I would expect his observations to be pretty accurate. Age is wrong, of course...

I read this book. I could not put it down, Wow!!! The scar, the Wotawe (the medicine bundle), Dewey Beard's authentication of the tintype and specially Little Bat's wife, a cousin of Crazy Horse, who knew Crazy Horse, who kept the tintype for so many years, just incredible. There is material in the book, historical documentation, private letters, that even the best historians out there did even know ever existed and I have been studying Plain Indians culture and history for 50 years now. Forget about the Buffalo Bill look like Indian, not even close. Just lame excuses. The story says it is Crazy Horse. That is what it counts. The authors of this book did a great job indeed.

There are no confirmed photos of Tashunke Witko aka Crazy Horse. There is a confirmed line drawing of him when in the 1930s a sketch artist met Crazy Horse's younger sister Iron Cedar. Upon learning that she was related to him, he asked her to describe Crazy Horse and from the describtion she gave him came up with a sketch. Whem he showed her, she broke down and cried and said "thats him". The sketch can be seen in the book, Crazy Horse The Lakota Warrior's Life & Legacy written by the Edward Clown family of the Crazy Horse Tiwahe and William Matson.

According to historically proven relationship, Crazy Horse’s uncle was Little Hawk, being Crazy Horse’s father’s brother. According to Little Hawk’s relatives Doug Bissonette and family, Iron Cedar Woman was not related to Crazy Horse whatsoever. She was the daughter of Woman Breast, who was not by many means Old Crazy Horse(Waglula/Worm) as the Clowns family claim. The Clown family claims, seven generations later, that they are Crazy Horse’s relative/family based on te Book of William Bordeaux” Custer’s Conqueror”. I’m 72 years old now and I have been reading and studying Lakota History for 55 years now and the Bordeaux book is the most historical incorrect book I have ever read in my life. The Clowns claim they are Crazy Horse’s relatives throughout Iron Cedar based solemnly and only on that book which it was written at first as a book for kids if you read the contents, than changed with some real names and factual facts. I wonder who did the changes, when and why. Anyway, even the second part of the book is historically incorrect. I’m assuming even the story that Iron Cedar Woman is Crazy Horse younger sister is incorrect or embellished as Doug Bissonett and family claim. Both family are fighting in court today for Crazy Horse estates and it is a shame it came down to this when a family, the Clowns family, never known before, never mentioned in any historical book and/or historical documents and data before, all of the sudden they claim they are Crazy Horse’s family because of a book that they never had read before, that they knew before of it existenceand and only when some family member read it so many years later, someone finally connected the dots and used that book to their advantage. The Clown family oral history, differs from the Oglala family oral history which had been already known to most historians and writers. I have the Clowns DVD and their book and I have come to the conclusion that in my opinion both the book and the DVD should be taken with a grain of salt. I rather stick with an oral history known to the world for the last 7 generations from day one, than an Oral History that just came out 7 generations later historically incorrect. Woman Breast and Oldman Crazy Horse were not the same person. The military knew Old Crazy Horse whereabouts and never cared for him after his son death. Old Crazy Horse did not change his name or hid from the military for fearing of retaliation like the Clowns claim. No reason for him to hide from the military who never tried to hurt him once his son was killed. He was considered harmless by the military.
