I have mentioned this in another thread, but the definitive analysis of Black Elk's stay in Europe is contained in Tom Cunningham's 'Black Elk, Mexican Joe & Buffalo Bill - The Real Story', which is available from lulu.com. He corrects the version given in 'Black Elk Speaks', using original the texts (from 'The Sixth Grandfather'), plus contemporary newspaper accounts and archive material from the UK and France. This was originally published as an English Westerners' Society Brand Book, but the Lulu edition is updated and expanded.
