Hi Grahame, wasn't Big Brave a Blackfeet? I remember that in Deaf persons in the arts and sciences this painting is labeled "Big Brave, Blackfeet Dance Chief". I couldn't find any Big Brave in the 1900 and 1910 Crow census records...just wondering. Also, in the SIRIS digital archive, Big Brave is given as another name of the famous Blackfeet chief Mountain Chief...anyone can spot a resemblance?

Maybe it is, though the lips look fuller in the painting.

Beautiful paintings! I got J.H .Sharp among the Crow Indians, 1902-1910 just last month and, even if there are just a few plates, there's a number of interesting sketches. Wothwhile content, too.

to the painting of Chief Big Brave by H.Sharp, this is not a Crow, he´s a dance chief of the Blackfeet.

I have seen this photograph identified as Blackfeet, but I am pretty sure it is Crow... Is this Four Bulls?

I don't think this is a Crow, but rather Uriwicie, a Northern Shoshone...
