The reknown American Indian Material Culture expert Mike Cowdrey just has got an essay online about a Blackfeet War Chief’s Shirt & Leggings of the 1830s. The wonderful shirt, leggings and some other items will be sold at Skinner Auctions, Boston.

In February of last year, at an estate sale in County Kilkenny, Ireland, some astonishing 19th century survivals reappeared from an attic trunk where they had been stored since the late-19th century. These included an 1830s Blackfeet War Chief's quilled & painted shirt & leggings, both trimmed with a heavy fringe of human hairlocks and yellow-dyed horse mane; and an 1840s Saulteau War Chief's turban-headdress.
