Shown here is another photograph of an unidentified Native American, taken at the studio of Duhem Brothers, Denver, Colorado, circa 1875. Again, another very dignified looking individual who must have been quite notable.

At the risk of stating the obvious - great photo; hair decorations and beadwork suggest Ute, as does the location of the studio. The Utes seemed quite keen to drop in at photographic studios - Carter, Savage, Duhem Brothers and Gurnsey, for example. No idea who he is,though.
I'm not really up on Utes, but... sure I read somewhere that Pah-Ute is a Ute band and distinctive from Paiute. I don't think he looks like Carter's Pah-Ute/Paiute Jim, nor like the photos of Ute Jim that I've seen, but I think names like Jim and Jack were thrown around quite liberally by white people at the time anyhow.
