This is what I have on a Chief/warrior Fast Thunder (collected on this board and elswhere): There was an Oglala Chief Fast Whirlwind (1810-1870) mentioned by George Catlin during his 1832 expedition and met by Francis Parkman in 1846. A Lakota band list presented by F. V. Hayden and dating from 1857-58 names a Fast Whirlwind as the chief of the Payabya band (?). Father to this/your Fast Whirlwind? Fast Whirlwind / Oglala (1850-1935) Wamniyomni Luzahan The nationality of Fast Whirlwind was Oglala Lakota. Also known as Wamniyomni Luzahan. Fast Whirlwind was born in 1851. Fast Whirlwind served as an Indian scout at the Red Cloud Agency in 1877-78 and at Pine Ridge during the Ghost Dance troubles; he is listed in Pine Ridge Agency census for 1890 as a member of the Makaha band. In his pension file, Fast Whirlwind said that he was born in the fall of 1851 at the mouth of Horse Creek. Another source states that he was also listed with a birthdate in 1852. He married (?) Good-All-Over circa 1875. He was listed as the "Head of the Household" on the US Indian Census Rolls at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Wounded Knee District, Shannon Co., South Dakota, USA, on July 1, 1890 and later in July 1910. In 1910 he was widowed. In the Census Roll of 1931 we find him again: age 81 years, widowed.(According to Mike Stevens website ) www.american-tribes.com/Lakota/BIO/HeDog-Oglala.htm ( photo with a Fast Whirlwind) In Special Agent Cooper's report of 25 February 1892, regarding property claims after the Ghost Dance and Wounded Knee incidents, he mentioned at position / on claim number 395 “Red Elk” a Fast Whirlwind as witness (see ”The Investigation of Special Agent Cooper and Property Damage Claims in the Winter of 1890-1891” by R. Eli Paul in South Dakota State Historical Society 1994): I suppose this is the Scout Fast Whirlwind of above. In the JEANNE SMITH COLLECTION at Oglala Lakota College Archive GROUP 1 – PINE RIDGE RESERVATION FAMILY AND COMMUNITY HISTORIEs there is a Folder: 19 File Title: He Dog File Number: 70 Subject: History of Chief Crazy Horse by Chief He Dog As written down by his son, Rev. Eagle Hawk, Oglala, South Dakota. Source: Fort Robinson Collection, Nebraska State Historical Society Names Mentioned: Rev. Joseph Eagle Hawk, He Dog, Red Cloud, Afraid of Horse, Red Dog, Little Wound, Spotted Face, Smoke, Wounded Face, Fast WhirlwindMaybe you find additional Information there. Toksha gregor

Do you know his parents? And was he a warrior before a scout?

It looks like most of the information was captured in the other thread: amertribes.proboards.com/thread/2379/fast-whirlwind-wamniomni-1775-1854As Good Wing/Good Ring is a grandmother of mine, I traced her through her through Samuel Little Bull who appears on almost all of the census records with her and also next to Fast Whirlwind and Fast Thunder. Location (Good Wing's daughter and Sam's sister; also called Against the Ground/Resting on the Ground) was married to Fast Thunder and later married John Kills Ree.
