SIHA SAPA-(Black Feet). This proper name retains its original Lakota form to this present day. Siha Sapa leaders signing the treaty were:
Fire Heart Smoke The One who Kills Eagle Walking Eagle The One that Rattles as he Walks Chief White Man Two Hearts Black Shield The Grass Sitting Crow

Some of the white mans' translations of Lakota names is downright derogatory. I wonder if it was intentional or just ignorance. I know that many Lakota words are difficult if not impossible to translate into English.

hi redlightnacrosssky!
Great to hear from you. Whereabouts are you in Canada?
Can you tell us more about your family connection to Lakotas in the USA?
Many thanks
Kingsley

Do you know when and why your ancestors moved up to Canada?
It's a fascinating hidden story of the Lakota people
