thanks grahamew for the great collection of Rain in the Face shots. New to me was the 1880 shot of Rain in the Face's tipis at Ft Keogh. Wonderful.
I thought it would be a useful exercise to pull together all the Hoffman camp scenes taken at Ft Keogh in the 1879-81 frame.

Rain in the Face's tipi liner (in the Brooklyn Museum): There are more here: www.brooklynmuseum.org/opencollection/objects/55885His .45 calibre Sharps www.nmai.si.edu/exhibitions/horsenation/guns.htmlWarbonnet allegedly belonging to Rain in the Face And another... Actor William S. Hart with a pair of moccasins and a jacket/shirt that belonged to Rain in the Face (wonder where they are now) From the NMAI collection: Rain in the Face's drawing of a Horse Dance Same dance? Fighting the Crow www.nmai.si.edu/searchcollections/results.aspx?catids=1&partytxt=rain+in+the+face&src=1-2Hunting buffalo A larger version can be found here: Waistcoat/vest in the Kelvingrove Museum/Gallery at Glasgow that allegedly belonged to Rain in the Face. Ignore the date; it'll be from the late 1880s/1890 when they became fashionable, especally among Wild West Show performers. Is it his? It was among a collection of items sold by George Crager to the museum when Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show visited Glasgow. Rain in the Face was not involved and the waistcoat appears in one of the Grabill post Ghost Dance photos of Brule and Oglala men (including Wild West Show performers Rocky Bear and Cody himself) incongruously modelled by a white man in a horned bonnet. If I had to guess, I'd say Mr Crager was cashing in on Rain in the Face's fame by claiming it was his. There is, I believe, at least one other photo of it seen behind the scenes at a Wild West Show.

Thanks for posting that Jeroen. The drawings were originally collected by the artist DeCost Smith I wonder if there are any more Rain in the Face photos out there...
Is the bonnet at the NMAI the same one he wears in the Huffman photo minus a few weasel tails?

Rain in the Face by Scott, though I've seen this credited to Barry. Cleaner version Supposedly by Barry Bigger version of the above. I suspect it's not by Barry and might have been taken around the time of the Columbia Exposition in 1893 Slightly different version

Hi grahamew,
is it possible to get a better resolution of the 1st photo of the Little Bighorn series by S. F. 'Dick' Fansler (John Grass and Rain in the Face in 1886)? I'm not convinced yet, that the 2 persons are Grass and Rain. I tried to blow up the picture, but it is difficult. Maybe anyone has a better resolution? Thanks. Gregor

Sorry. That's the best I've got. I have my doubts too, particularly as to the presence of John Grass.
About the photo of his wife, Jeroen: do you think it's the same woman (but older) as at the left of the Huffman photo? It doesn't look like the woman in the Barry photos. Who took the photo?
