I am relatively new to this page, therefore my navigating skills are as yet, somewhat limited. I have been studying and researching Apaches, for a number of years. I would like to ask the members a question. I am researching the 11 Apache Scouts, who were awarded the Medal of Honor. Ten of the scouts received the medal, in 1875, for their participation in the Tonto Basin Campaign. One, received his medal, in 1890, for participation, in hunting the Apache Kid. This is my question. There are photographs of Alchesay, Nantaje, and Rowdy, who were awarded the Medal. Are there CONFIRMED IDENTIFICATION photographs, of the OTHER Apache Scouts, who were awarded the Medal of Honor? What are the tribal/clan/group designations of each scout? As I said, I'm new to this page, so I apologize, if this question as been asked or answered previously. Scout47

Thank you cinemo, I have seen that page and was just wondering, if those were actually confirmed photographs. I believe the one listed as Blanquet is actually Rowdy. I appreciate the information, just trying to confirm.

Hello, I am new to the forum and also have a great interest in Apache scouts, and especially those that received the MOH. I have just added to my collection a very very rare cabinet card of Apache scout MOH recipient Chiquito and his wife. I hope to post the image later in the week.

interesting discussion. all recipinents of the MOH deserve the highest recognition. and as I'm sure you know - many recipients died earning it. On the Internet, there are pages that actually discuss EXACTLY what actions were taken by the medal recipients that caused them to get their award for bravery. I wonder if a statement exists that says what the Apache Scouts did for this great honor - does anyone have the description?

A rare cabinet card from my collection of Apache scout and MOH recipient Chiquito and his wife. Most likely taken during the delegation to Washington DC. Chiquito was awarded the MOH for gallantry during the winter of 1871-1873 during conflicts with hostile Apache's. Scout for General Crook. I have never seen another cabinet card of Chiquito and his wife or Chiquito alone. In William Henry Jackson's "Descriptive Catalogue of Photographs of North American Indians(1877)" the index of photographs does have a listing of Chiquito alone besides the one taken with his wife. I have never seen this image. Mount of image has F.V. Hayden US Geologist. Would love to hear all of your thoughts and views. Thank You. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Attachments:
