PART I:
As many of you may have read, my G. G. Grandmother, was an heir to 1/6 of Chief Spotted Tail's Estate. I will try and state my sincere and honest intentions here.
I am not sure about where or, how to post this. So, after some thought, I have decided to start a new Thread. (It can be moved later if, felt necessary.)
Out of the up most respect to the Spotted Tail family, I must say that, my intentions here are heart felt, innocent and contain much pride. Also, I would like to ask that, who ever reads this, does so with the same respect !
I am, one of the very few from my large family (if not the only one) that, has spent so much of my time trying to figure this out.
If, any of the Spotted Tail family reads this and wants to contact me, I would very much appreciate it and would love to meet you.
I am only trying to figure out who I am and to discover my relatives. My main goal here is to try and figure out who my G. G. G. Grandmother was and if, at all possible, who her parents were etc.. To continue my lineage work.
For many years, a few of my family members and myself were trying to figure out who the woman listed as, Widow #2 really was. Approx. 2 or, 3 yrs. ago some documents were found.
1.) Long story short, per William Spotted Tail's statement, his father had five wives and he gave the following names:
Hears Horse, Black Lodge, Red Crane, Loosen, Yellow Leaf
2.) Per: National Achieves and Record Administration (NARA) Central Plains Regional Office - Kansas City, MO states the following: Allotment Name; Her Black Lodge English Name; Spotted Tail's Widow #2
3.) Per: ALLOTMENT OR ESTATE RECORD, ROSEBUD Reservation - Spotted Tail Widow #2, b. 4-18-19, d. 3-5-11
[Note:] At the time of this document, Hear Her Horse Voice or Horse Voice (aka), Hoarse Voice appeared to be the only living Heir who, was living at the time of, Her Black Lodge's death.
Heirs of Spotted Tail Widow #2 were as follows: sister - Hearing Her Horse Voice (aka), Hears Horse, (aka), Horse Voice, (aka), Hoarse Voice sister - Arrow Head or Arrow Point half sister - Transparent Stone half sister - Star Woman or Big Woman half sister - Good Earth or Ground half sister - Elbow or White Mountain
Closing Comments: 1.) My G. G. G. Grandmother was; Transparent Stone, [may possibly be (aka), Close Together, one of the wives of Charging Eagle. However, most documents I have, only state that his wife was Close Together, with the exception of one document.] 2.) My G. G. Grandmother was; Fannie M. Powell, (aka), Top Of The Head, (aka), Pecokanwin 3.) Please refer to my comments above about respect. I am also posting this to try to help. Please don't abuse that !!!! 4.) I will help you, if..., you will help me. 5.) Thank you American Tribe's and it's members.
Refer's: A.) National Achieves and Record Administration (NARA) Central Plains Regional Office - Kansas City, MO B.) ALLOTMENT OR ESTATE RECORD, SPOTTED TAILS WIDOW #2 Dated; March 2, 1889 C.) 5-405 a, INHERITED INTEREST IN ESTATES, Kansas City Achieves D.) Refer.'s: Using the same reference's listed above in my first post, in the new thread. Thanks, kakarns I am currently working on; Heir# 8.) listed above. " Bluffing Bear, son of; Elbow or White Mountain" This includes researching very many Census records and also, includes several families. For just a few examples; Elbow or White Mountain, Bluffing Bear, Sophia Rocky Bear/Bluffing Bear, Rocky Bear (aka) Rock Bear, Track, Runs Ahead (maybe aka, First), Sits In Lodge (maybe aka, Owl Sits In House), Cane, Black Bear, Fooling Bear, Red Elk, etc.. Of course, many questions have arrived during this research, as always. For example; Was the family name; Runs Ahead (aka), Runson (aka), Runs On. This question comes about from noticing that, directly west of the Charging Eagle Allotment there are (3) Allotment's in the family names of; #1580 Sophia Runson, #1581 Annie Runson, # Lucy Runson. I'm trying to sort out these names and comparing birth dates, etc.. Closing Comments: This will take several days for me to complete and will involve starting some new threads to try and stay organized. I do have a good start on this. I try hard to avoid mistakes but, I am far from being an expert at this. Sincerely, kakarns

I’m trying very hard to figure out how I am connected to the Spotted Tail lineage. My dad told me that his grandmother would speak of being related to Chief Spotted Tail but how do I figure out how?? I’m desperately searching. The furthest down my family tree is to Estelle Theresa Jones (wife of William Jones). Her parents may have been Julia Castoya Cournoyer and William Buford Cournoyer. Any help would be amazing!! It’s so important to me and I’m all alone in my search

Welcome Bird White. I fully understand your feelings about it being so difficult to research. It took my family many years to discover that, Spotted Tail's Widow #2 was actually, Julia Black Lodge. I was fortunate to have a few other family members who, were doing family research at the same time that I was. It was a distant cousin who, (at the time), traveled from Florida (I'm pretty sure, >)to; "Kansas City Archives" in Kansas, USA where, he found some documents which, contained the missing information we needed. Otherwise, all the other documents we had prior, referred to her as; Widow #2.
Therefore, Kansas City, Kansas may be worth a try.
Wish I could help you more. I haven't been on the site for quite some time so, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. When, I get some time, I will go through some of my Chief S. T. notes and see if, I can find anything else that may help you.
Sincerely, kakarns

We do not mean to intrude on the strand for Spotted Tail's widow #2 but are asking how to send a message to the gentleman who is researching Chief Standing Bear. I received land through probate from George Standing Bear along the White River and grew up in Corn Creek, SD. My mom was Alvina Caroline Langdeaux and her mom was Julie Mabel Ashley, registered Cheyenne River as I am. If anyone could direct us to the correct message board, we would greatly appreciate your help. We are trying to learn how I am connected through family to Chief Standing Bear. Pilamiya, Jack Parsells

Sorry I haven't been on the Site at all for quite some time now. My life got real hectic and hasn't calmed down much.
My wife, Rhoda "walked on" to the spirit world on; Nov. 8, 2020.
I've been off of work since Oct. 2020 with health issues. I have to have some surgery's but, am hoping to return to work at least by the end of May.
The good news is, I am re-building one of my motorcycles and giving it a "Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe" and "Oglala Tribe", theme and dedication. Heck I even bought a personalized license plate.
Hope to get back on here soon. Miss you all & Take Care kakarns

I was doing some research today, following Julia In Sight/Sitting In Sight Red Shirt (wife of Joseph Red Shirt) and I found a record for what appears to be her on an older 1880 census at Standing Rock, with a father listed as Spotted Bird's Tail (Born about 1924) and mother Lame Woman. I'm not sure if this is our Spotted Tail in question, but the birthdate does match. I'm just adding in case any of the names on this record do eventually help.
