It has been 124 years since Sitting Bull was killed on Standing Rock at the Gray Eagle allotment, they remember him on December 15th of every year, the tribe has a made December 15th a day of remembrance,
which is the beginning of Ride to Wounded Knee on Horseback where they teach the young people about Sitting Bull and his people, Spotted Elk (Big Foot) and his people and their walk to Wounded Knee.
The massacre at Wounded Knee on December 29, 1890. These events forever changed our lives as native people. His words Sitting Bull are taught in all the school here, in 2004 one of our enrolled members
was able to purchase the Grand River burial site that was put up for sell and 2005, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe was able to obtain the ownership of the Sitting Bull Grave site in Fort Yates from the
State of North Dakota, until this time we never had ownership of the grave sites. Our college is named after Sitting Bull and we are all brought up on the words and life of Sitting Bull. I do not see many
disputes over what happen 124 years ago, even the descendant of Red Tomahawk honor Sitting Bull today. The children here are all told the story of Sitting Bull and his life because many are from his camp or
related to him. In Indian country our relationships are different we are not like the European concept of relationship so everyone from his camp considered Sitting Bull their Lala or Grandfather. What does peace
and healing mean on Rock (Standing Rock) acknowledging your history and accepting the history and healing from it. It is what we as Lakotas are doing today because we still suffer from the events of 124 years ago
because other people cant let go of what is not their to let go of. We all leave food and tobacco at the grave sites with our prayers that is what we do for peace and healing what are you doing?
