Does anyone know the date of the earliest specimens?
In believe I've seen photographs of floral, Metis-style beaded waistcoats dating from around 1860, but what about the geometric style? They seem common in the 1890s and beyond, but what about earlier?
The waistcoats seen in photographs from the 1860s and 1870s seem to be either of purely white manufacture or modified with chains and maybe beads.
In Bad Heart Bull's ledger, admittedly drawn after the fact, the beaded waistcoats are seen in drawings representative of reservation life, not the buffalo hunting period.
Anyone got any ideas about this or perhaps some photos or other evidence of earlier geometric (or figurative) beaded waistcoats?
Thanks.
