„Beam of Light“ – is the name of my Project primarily targeted to explain ambiguous names of Apachean local groups, tribes, bands and clan.
Following is the list of names and reason why they could be regarded as ambiguous:
-Tziltadené – a word that IMHO unlike others can be easily decomposed as Tsil – Rock, t’a – on the top, on the surface of, (t)di(e)nné - people , People (living on) Rocks . a)This name carries one clan of Western Apache b) but there is also a message that there was a group of the same name related to Pinaleño (see next) and Chiricahua or being a part of them.
-Pinaleños – it is said to be often confused with Pinal Coyotero. In such a way a tribe of a) Pinaleños was gathered to San Carlos reservation , probably from Pinaleño Mountains west of Sanford, Arizona, and kept under label of the b) “Pinal Apache Indian”. Other sources refer Pinaleños as those to be related closely with Chiricahuas. c) Ambiguosity goes on if we take into consideration a group mentioned in the most detailed description of Chiricahua bands provided by answers.com available at www.answers.com/topic/chiricahua where Nedhni- Pinaleño local group is explicitly defined, located south of Bavispe, Sonora as southernmost of all Nedhni groups.
-Farao and Taracone - mutually interchangeable, denotes many groups (Chilpaines, Lemitas, Trementinas) before 1750 in Spanish accounts, name disappeared about 1750 . Often concluded that tribe burst out of obscurity as one of modern day Mescaleros creating group , in my opinion particularly southwestern Chilpaines/ Tsilnihéndé (Tsil-ni-hé-ndé … Rock-earth-?-people), but maybe any others .
-Llanero – a) clasification for many bands of different tribes including Comanches , living in the sandy area east of Pecos b) more precisely Jicarilla clan , composed probably by descendants of former Carlana Apache tribe people after they were attacked by Comanches, scattered , reunited in Texas , marched northward and amalgamated with Jicarillas about 1800 c) Mescalero Guhlkaindé as main people who deserve this name.
Would you please participate to help me , if possible, to clarify issues mentioned above ? I think without your help it can not be accomplished .
