I believe there was a picture taken of Nana, at his camp in San Carlos around 1884. Has anyone seen this picture? Ive seen a cropped version that only had him. I think it was similar to the picture of Locos camp taken at the same time.

Hi to you all from a really big admirer... Very much interested in Nana's legendary raid. Can someone assist with the identification of the 15 chihenne strong who composed the raiding party. speculation might be helpful too. Is there any information regarding the Mescalero's who joined.

Not much till now, ha ? Knew it's not an easy one. Here is much of the few that I have as to now: All of Victorio's leading men gathered around Nana after tres castillos. Kaytenna, Blanco, Sanches and Suldeen. Good chance that some of them joined the July 1881 raid. Kaywakla states firmly that Lozen joined in the ambushes and skirmishes at that time, and good chance she was there also. the name of As-ka-do-del-ges is mentioned as a chihenne warrior who survived tres castillos. might have been there also. as for Mangas, he was around, but very unlikly he was willing to leave his small group to join a raid. Regarding the Mescalero's, we know that Muchacho Negro, Running Water, Manchito and Coje joined Victorio. They were the hard core of Mescalero resistanceat the time. It is well known that Caballero was killed, but not much is known about what the athers were doing at that time. More firm knowledge regards Ho-nes-co, a mescalero warrior who fought with Victorio and Nana, and was arrested afterwards in the reservation.

These are the names I have so far: Nana, Kayatennae, Becalthey, Jatu, Sanchez, Blanco, Choneska, Showano, Nezulkide, Suldeen, Askadadelges, Mahgado, Mangas, Guydelkon, Chobegoza and Petzahan (also known as Frijole). The group, at times, also included between 10 and 25 Mescalero Apache and a few Navajo men (between 2 and 10).

Notice that Nana and Jatu were related (Father-son or son-in-law) as we know like certainly Sanchéz- Blanco (brothers) and Kaatheney- Becalthey-Nezulkide (brothers).
Seeltoe, Lancey and Kinzhunna (younger brother of Kaatheney) could be include as dikohe, no?

That's very intriguing. There were 2 Navaho men fighting alongside Kaytenna during the cavalry attack on Loco near the border, when Kaytenna made courageous efforts to rescue one of them who got wounded. wander if they might be the same Navaho's who rode with Nana in 1881. as to your remark Coeurrouge, blood relations among those tiny firm bands seems to be often characterized by strong blood relations. don't know about Sanches, but Blanco was brother of Suldeen. Suldeen was near him when he was killed by the troops, and was killed himself short time after in another engagement.

Sanchez was the father of Gouyen's first husband, and Blanco and Suldeen were also his sons.
I cannot name a reference, but it was said somewhere by the grandson of Sanchez, James Kaywaykla.

Sanchez was the father of Gouyen's first husband, and Blanco and Suldeen were also his sons. I cannot name a reference, but it was said somewhere by the grandson of Sanchez, James Kaywaykla. You're correct in that Sanchez was Kaywaykla's paternal grandfather. From Kaywaykla's account, though, it seems like Suldeen, Blanco, and a third brother were brothers/half-brothers of his mother, Gouyen... Kaywaykla states in Eve Ball's "Apache Voices": (p. 22) "We came back to New Mexico then across the Rio Grande to the Standing Mountain (Cook's Peak) and that's where Blanco was killed. He was my mother's brother..."
(p 23) "The Indians were all in a bunch and he killed Suldeen. So we lost two men in one day... Now my mother had only one brother left but I don't know his name..."in "In the Days of Victorio" he states: (p. 20) "Grandfather brought my uncles, Blanco and Suldeen, with him. He brought also my paternal grandfather, Sanchez."

"and a few Navajo men (between 2 and 10)."
this gets mentioned from time to time. it seems that a "few Navajo" were at many of these raids. maybe even with Geronimo on his final escape. but we never hear exactly about who the Navajo were, why they had joined the Nde, whether they were also sent to Florida, or maybe just ran off.
BTW - Nana was a tough old guy. hard to believe he did so much riding and fighting at an advanced age. He gives me inspiration when my own bones are sore and complaining. Hahaha!
Update: have posted the question on the Navajo section. we will see if anyone from the Navajo people might be able to answer this.

I read some where Nana was related to Delgadito, does any one know how they where related? Also I would like to know about the five daughters who where all married to noted warriors. According to Edwin Sweeney they where married to Rinon, Horache, Vincente (Geronimo's Brother/Brother inlaw) and one to a mescalero chief named Tomaso Palona? Any one know there names and who they we married to?
