I know this will drive Dietmar mad, sorry Dietmar, { I've asked him privately about this several times, } but does anyone know A, if there are any photographs of these men, and B, anything about Runs Fearless and what happened to him. I would also like to know about Pawnee Killer, and again, are there any photgraphs of the man? Shan

Hi Lowdog, About Pawnee Killer: I know of two photographs of him: This one was taken when the 1875 Lakota delegation traveled to Washington-Pawnee Killer is standing third from left, in the last row (partially covered by another Native's headdress) This portrait was made in 1877, by D. Mitchell I think. Hth, Jin

Runs Fearless was killed when the steamboat, Far West, shelled Indians early August 1876. The details are in Kingsley Bray's book.

lowdog. I have been trying for a long time to find a biography of Lame Deer without success. I know he was a signatory at a treaty signing at Fort Sully, Dakota Territory in October, 1865, but don't know if any photographs were taken,

thanks jilian, yes I had seen those two photos of Pawnee Killer before, but was just wondered if there were any others.
thanks for that grahamew.
Whilst I'm asking about images, photographs in particular, has anyone ever seen any of Black Moon? I believe there were two individuals with this name, and without looking through a pile of books, was one of them killed at LBH?

Black Moon, Hunkpapa war chief of the Fox Warrior Society, was killed during the fighting on Reno Hill.

Aha! Must remember to keep checking back on the main pages as I see they're being continually updated. Any plans to do a piece on Lame Deer?

Info on Lame Deer is very hard to find and no photographs as far as I know. The only piece I know is that he was killed in May 1877 fighting Nelson Miles' troops.

No need to apologize for any request, Shan. And a big welcome, also to tatanka and other new members! There is at least one variation of the Mitchell photograph of Pawnee Killer (with hat). It´s on SIRIS somewhere. I´m not able to post, because I am in summer vacation at the North Sea, precisely on Norderney Island. I will post it when I´m back home in about two weeks. Best wishes to all of you! Dietmar

I'd be interested to see that, Dietmar; I've only seen a small version of it. Along with some of Mitchell's other subjects, he looks like he's just been to the hat shop to have his photo taken!

Now I come to think of it, there is a sketch (Davis?) of Pawnee Killer and two other men when he met Custer. PK's wearing a hat with feathers attached (I think), a long ashirt and leggings; the other men have feathers in their hair.

siris-archives.si.edu/ipac20/ipac.jsp?uri=full=3100001~!92198!0#focus Does anyone have this photo? I thought it might have been on that CD that Kingsley bought. Pawnee Killer and His Braves, 1867. Taken by Theodore Davis. In 1867! The great warchiefs like him still ruled the plains. I'm kind of surpirsed anyone had nerve enough to take a photo of PK, 'braves' and all. But I'd certainly love to see it. Wait -- now that I read it closely, I think it's a photograph of a sketch for Harper's. But still... Edit: Sorry. I missed the fact that grahamew referenced this above.
