My primary research interests derive from a fascination with imagery used as message. Thus, current work on Lakota winter counts and the painted designs on Kiowa shields and tipis. I'm also fascinated by Plains Indian Wars period photography of and the work of photographers among Native American Plains tribes during the Indian Wars period; those who created images through staged photographs (often with props) and those who preserved a more accurate "here's how people really looked" shots.
I'm a university professor and write the quarterly "Legal Briefs" column for "American Indian Art Magazine." And, no, I'm not an attorney, so, please, no requests for legal advice!
I've long admired the goings on here and look forward to learning from others who share similar interests.

Hello Mccoy, Have you found a problem with "staged" photos and the apparel of those in the photos. I wonder because I wonder what is of the area/era and what is not.
