Wives and Husbands. Gender and Age in Southern Arapaho History. by Loretta Fowler. University of Oklahoma Press.
This is the fourth work on the Arapaho by this respected anthropologist. The book is the study of Southern Arapaho age and gender cohorts through time, showing how men and womens roles changed from pre reservation times through the reservation years and into the post allotment 1930's. A very detailed ethno-historical study. Highly recommended along with her previous works; Arapahoe Politics 1851-1978 Symbols in Crises of Authority. University of Nebraska Press 1982. Shared symbols, Contested Meanings. Gross Ventre Culture and History 1778-1984. Cornell university Press 1987. Tribal Sovereignity and the Historical Imagination. Cheyenne- Arapaho Politics. University of Nebraska Press 2002.
