Hi, everyone. Just came across this website by a fluke. Hoping somebody can give me some help -- I'm impressed by the amount of information many of you have readily available.
My maternal great-grandmother (born in 1895) was half "Lakota." Her mother was white and her father, known off the reservation as "John Ray," was Native American. The family story has long been that he was a son(?) of Red Cloud and that his Native name was Many-Scars-on-the-Face (I think that's right -- I don't have my paperwork handy right now to confirm). He and my great-great-grandmother were married in Union County, Oregon (I keep meaning to hunt up a copy of the document but I live several hundred miles away and I don't want to do it by mail-order), probably around 1885, but, of course, it's anyone's guess how much factual information he may have reported, considering the times.
I haven't been able to find anything on the Internet for either name, especially as relating to Red Cloud. I'm hoping one of you might have some further thoughts. Thanks!

Julia Red Cloud (1850 - ), #189
She was Oglala Lakota. Also known as Julia Long Soldier. She married Long Soldier. Julia was born in 1850. A Red Cloud family genealogy, in the form of an heirship affidavit held by the South Dakota State Historical Society, states that Red Cloud's first daughter, Wears War Bonnet (later Julia Long Soldier) was born about 1850. She was the daughter of Chief (?) Red Cloud and Mary Good Road.

Hi from Germany!
According to my informations, Red Cloud's (1822 - 1909) children with Pretty Owl aka Tamachechawin aka Mary Red Cloud aka Mary Good Road (abt 1835 - 1940!!!) go like this:
1. Wears-War-Bonnet aka Julia Long Soldier (* abt. 1850 - ?) 2. Louisa Richard / Reshaw (* abt. 1854 - 1893 ?) 3. Man Above aka Jack Red Cloud (* abt. 1858 - 1918) 4. Libbie Slow Bear (? - ?) 5. Watakpe or Charge At aka Mrs. John Kills-Above (*? - aft. 1900) 6. Tells Him aka Fannie Chase Alone (* abt 1860 - aft. 1900)
But there are still some questions open. It would be good to have a Red Cloud here to fill the gaps.
