Hi Jeroen,
Sits Down Spotted is mentioned several times in F. Hoxie's Parading through History. He was born around 1861 and in 1885 was listed as living with his father Knot Between the Eyes and mother Takes the Iron; in 1887 he moved on his own, settled in the Big Horn Valley and became a successful farmer (in 1890 he's reported as living in a log house and owning a wagon, a plog and several farming tools). He was reported as "cooperative" and "progressive" and was close to Chief Pretty Eagle. As Pretty Eagle, at first Sits Down Spotted supported the Catholic Church and became a Catholic when, in the 1880s, the first Catholic Mission was established at Crow Agency; however, in the early 1900s, Sits Down Spotted became an active supported of Peyotism.
He was listed in the 1900 census as living with his wife Steals on the Camp and a 2 yeas old son named John; as he's not mentioned in the 1910 census, it seems that he died sometime between 1900 and 1910.
That's what all I was able to find; if I come across other info, I'll let you know.

jeroen: I had a doubt about the image, and so checked the whole thread. The man in your photograph is Carries His Food (also known as The Man who Carries His Food), one of the Crow arrested in the aftermath of the Sword Bearer uprise in 1887. You can compare his portrait with the two group photos of the Crow prisoners: (the one sitting in the middle, front row) Sits Down Spotted is this man:

I had my doubts also about the man being identified as Sits down spotted, did not know his name was Carries his food, I had this one in my files also, and should have seen the difference: Thanks Jinlian for taking the time to identify him correctly.

Yes, he healed the teenager Pretty Shield from a wound on her forehead, saving her eye (as reported by Pretty Shield herself in F.B. Linderman's Red Mother)
